Third-generation therapies (MBI, ACT, DBT-SUD) in the treatment of substance useContenido principal del artículo
Substance use disorders (SUDs) represent a public health issue, particularly among university students, due to their effects on mental health and academic performance. This integrative review synthesized recent evidence on the effectiveness of third-wave therapies (mindfulness, ACT, DBT-SUD) and digital modalities for SUD treatment. Seventeen studies (2020–2025) were analyzed. Findings indicate that mindfulness reduces craving and relapse, ACT improves abstinence and adherence, and DBT-SUD enhances emotional regulation while reducing dropout. Digital interventions further support engagement and abstinence maintenance. Results highlight the value of integrating third- wave therapies into scalable, culturally adapted hybrid programs and call for longitudinal studies to confirm their long-term impact.
