Mental health professionals work in emotionally demanding contexts with limited resources, which contributes to chronic stress and burnout. This qualitative narrative review aims to explore mental health workers’ perceptions of gratitude, emotional self-efficacy, and their relationship to regulating work-related stress. Four studies published between 2015 and 2025 in Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed were selected. Thematic analysis identified three categories: personal coping strategies, professional support networks, and processes of reframing distress. The findings show that gratitude and emotional self-efficacy operate primarily as personal dispositions rather than structured therapeutic techniques, and their impact depends on the institutional and cultural context. Methodological limitations and gaps in the qualitative literature, especially in Latin American settings, are noted. The results underscore the need to develop contextualized and sustainable emotional self-care interventions for mental health professionals.
