Adolescent stress within the family context is a growing concern due to its impact on mental health during this developmental stage. The objective of this study was to compare stress levels in the home life dimension according to perceived parental socialization styles, distinguishing between maternal and paternal figures, in adolescents aged 15 to 17 from a private educational institution in Loja, Ecuador. The study adopted a quantitative, descriptive-comparative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach, with 97 adolescents (66.0% female) who completed the Adolescent Stress Questionnaire (ASQ-56) and the Parental Socialization Style Scale in Adolescence (ESPA29). The authoritative style predominated for mothers, while the indulgent style recorded the highest stress means for both figures. Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences. It is concluded that the four-style typological model lacks sufficient discriminatory power to explain perceived family stress. This finding suggests exploring more specific parenting dimensions that offer greater explanatory power regarding adolescent stress within the Ecuadorian context.
